Lloyds TSB staff voted in record numbers to make Barnardo’s their chosen charity of the year for 2007/08.

One Lloyds TSB employee doing his best to make a difference to the lives of disadvantaged young people is Business Development Manager, Bernie Hollywood.

At 5am on March 22 2008 Bernie will take the first steps on the Lloyds TSB ‘For the Journey’ challenge.
He will run 926.2 miles, from John O’Groats to Lands End, in just 22 days, and plans to culminate this epic journey by running the 2008 Flora London Marathon on Sunday 13 April with the 13 runners of the Lloyds TSB London Marathon team.

How you can help
Bernie and the Lloyds TSB London Marathon team hope to raise £100,000 for Barnardo’s. Please support them on their journey and help the lives of 50 disadvantaged young people today by sponsoring them through their Justgiving page.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient form of sponsorship: Barnardo's will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

In conjunction with Athletics Weekly, the bible of our sport, we are launching a new young athlete initiative in the form of a competition, commencing January 2008, and running through to the 2012 London Olympics.
The Ronhill Young Athlete of the Month Challenge winner will be chosen from among the nominations from readers and is open to athletes in the under-20 age group and lower.
The winning criteria are as broad as possible. We are looking to hear of triumph in adversity and commitment against the odds, the most impressive improvements, outstanding talent and a strong and positive attitude, as well as purely good results. The winner will receive £150 worth of Ronhill kit and their story will be featured in AW.
To nominate yourself or someone else for December’s award, please email aotm@athleticsweekly.co.uk.

The panel of judges will comprise Jason Henderson, Athletics Weekly’s editor, John Cooper, founder and Managing director of Ridgeway Textiles, distance runners Nick Rose and Andy Holden and myself, CEO of Ronhill and erstwhile cross-country international.
Ronhill, the leading British running apparel brand established by the legendary Dr Ron Hill in 1970 and has ever since been dedicated to the production of technologically advanced kit for all levels of runners and competitive athletes, is about to launch a BRAND NEW range of running wear designed specifically for club runners.

Carrying the Team Ronhill emblem this collection is the result of a joint enterprise between Ridgeway Textiles and Ronhill who have both been at the forefront of serving British club runners, together, for over 25 years.
The collection has been designed to compliment the vast number of race vests that Ronhill and Ridgeway have been producing for many years and features new clothing options to produce a complete club outfit and identity. This new collection will come in 6 different and distinctive colours and will range from Team Run jackets through to training pants, tee shirts, sprint and run shorts and vests. There will also be a bespoke service available for the printing of club names and symbols.
Ronhill has always been a pioneer in the development of advanced fabric design and technical textile innovation with the early creation of mesh vests, freedom shorts and the iconic trackster.
Yet this collection, for men and women, is also example of how the Ronhill brand has remained close to its club roots and is a reflection of how the company recognizes the importance of its relationship with the club runner.
On Saturday 2nd February OUCCC travelled to Swansea for their second biggest race of the season, the BUSA cross-country championships. The men's A team had achieved 4th place in two of the previous three seasons, so were looking to break the monopoly of the lottery-funded universities on medal positions this year. As in previous years, Ben Moreau led the Oxford team home in 11th place, with David Bruce and Ian Kimpton running well together to give three of the scoring four inside the top 30. Unfortunately the rest of the team was weakened by illness and Oxford finally finished as 4th team again; a strong performance considering the academic pressure combined with the more limited funding available for sport.
The women's team was again weakened by illness, but led home by women's captain Cathy Ansell with a controlled run to finish a creditable 25th. The scoring team was completed by Rachel Deegan, on her way back from injury, and Alison Crocker, in between skiing and orienteering competitions. The team finished 7th overall to maintain Oxford's strong recent history in the competition.
The men's B team was considerably stronger than it has been in recent years, with all four scorers packing well to finish inside the top 21. Ex-Olympian Nick Howarth led the team home with a well judged run, and fresher Jonny Pearson laughed off the loss of his spikes to finish a solid 14th. The B team overall was third, with the men's C team not far behind in 7th place overall, but comfortably the first university C team.
Overall it was an excellent day for Oxford, particularly highlighting the strength in depth and enthusiasm for running at the university.
Meanwhile OUAC travelled down to the Birmingham games to get some competition practice before the athletics varsity match. The highlights included Julia Lange winning the 1500, and subsequently coming narrowly second in the 800, and Danny Eckersley stepping up from his usual 400 to win his heat in the 800. OUAC's focus is now on the Field Events and Relays match against Cambridge on 17th February
